Απολιθωμένα μαλάκια από τη λεκάνη Μεγαλουπόλης Πελοποννήσου = Fossil molluscs from Megalopolis basin, Peloponnesus, Greece.

Περίληψη

Η λεκάνη της Μεγαλόπολης στην Κεντρική Πελοπόννησο έχει πληρωθεί με λιμναία λιγνιτοφόρα ιζήματα Πλειστοκαινικής ηλικίας. Η περιοχή έχει μελετηθεί στο παρελθόν λόγω των λιγνιτικών στρωμάτων και των απολιθωμάτων της, τα οποία αποτελούνται κυρίως από θηλαστικά. Η έρευνα όμως για τα μαλάκια της περιοχής είναι κατά πολύ υποδεέστερη. Στη παρούσα εργασία, μελετήθηκαν τρία άπλυτα δείγματα βάρους ~2,5 kg., καθώς και 4 πλυμένα δείγματα νεροκόσκινου από τον χώρο της Προϊστορικής ανασκαφής Marathousa 1, η οποία εντοπίζεται στον Σχηματισμό Χωρέμη της λεκάνης. Τα δείγματα αυτά ανήκουν σε 3 διαφορετικά στρώματα, τα UA3C, UB2B και UB4C.
Μετά την επεξεργασία των δειγμάτων (ξήρανση – πλύση με νερό και Η2Ο2- ξήρανση) έγινε διαλογή των περιεχομένων απολιθωμένων οστράκων μαλακίων σε στερεοσκοπικό μικροσκόπιο, και στη συνέχεια τα απολιθώματα ταξινομήθηκαν.
Η συστηματική τους περιγραφή επέτρεψε την αναγνώριση 23 ειδών (19 Γαστερόποδα, 4 Δίθυρα). Τα είδη που αναγνωρίστηκαν ήταν, κατά πλειοψηφία, κοινά για τα 3 στρώματα, με τα είδη Valvata cristata, Bithynia candiota και Valvata studeri να αποτελούν το 90% των συνολικών οστράκων κάθε δείγματος. Το πιο πλούσιο σε όστρακα στρώμα ήταν το UB2B στο οποίο βρέθηκαν και τα περισσότερα είδη.
Τα είδη Anisus vortex, Bathyomphalus contortus, Acroloxus lacustris και Carychium tridentatum, ανευρίσκονται για πρώτη φορά στη λεκάνη της Μεγαλόπολης.
Το σύνολο των ανευρεθέντων μαλακίων είναι γλυκού νερού και σε συνδυασμό με τη λιθολογική σύσταση των ιζημάτων δείχνει ένα ρηχό λιμναίο περιβάλλον απόθεσης με ιλυώδες υπόστρωμα και έντονη παρουσία φυτικών υπολειμμάτων.
 
The Megalopolis basin in the Central Peloponnese has been filled with lignite bearing lacustrine sediments of Pleistocene age. The area has been studied in the past due to the lignite deposits; as well as the fossil mammals that were also found in the area, but the mollusc fossils have been fractionally studied.
In the present paper, three bulk samples (~2.5 kg each) as well as 4 water sieved specimens were elaborated and studied. The samples originate from the prehistoric excavation Marathousa 1, situated into Choremi Formation of the basin. The samples were collected from 3 different strata, UA3C, UB2B and UB4C.
Bulk samples were water sieved and the dry residues were elaborated under a stereoscopic microscope, fossil shells were selected and sorted. Their systematic description allowed the identification of 23 species (19 Gastropods, 4 bivalves). The species identified were, most of them, common to the 3 strata, with Valvata cristata, Bithynia candiota and Valvata studeri comprising 90% of the total shells in each sample. The layer UB2B was the richest in fossils and most species were found here.
Anisus vortex, Bathyomphalus contortus, Acroloxus lacustris and Carychium tridentatum are identified for first time in the Megalopolis basin.
The determined molluscs are freshwater, and in combination with the lithological composition of the sediments indicate a shallow lacustrine depositional environment with silty substrates and an intense presence of plant residues.
