Ορυκτολογική και γεωχημική μελέτη της θερμομεταμόρφωσης επαφής του πλουτωνίτη της Σιθωνίας με μεταμορφωμένα πετρώματα της Περιροδοπικής Ζώνης, Χαλκιδική, Β. Ελλάδα = Mineralogical and geochemical study of the contact metamorphism between the Sithonia plutonite and the metamorphic rocks of the Circum-Rhodope Belt , Chalkidiki, N. Greece.
Περίληψη
The aim the present thesis was the study of the metamorphic phenomena that the Sithonia pluton has caused to the surrounding rocks of Circum-Rhodope Belt, at the areas of Elia, Ag. Pavlos and Parthenonas (locations of Sithonia Peninsula). The plutonite intrudes the meta-sediments of the Melissochori Formation which consists of a sequence of calcareous metapsammites and metapelites. The observed metamorphic assemblages are located in sites between metapsammites and metapelites or inside the former. Two main assemblages were observed. The one that is associated to the metapsammites consists of vesuvianite, grossular, diopside, clinozoisite, quartz, calcite and plagioclase. The other one is associated to the metapelites and includes diopside, Ca-amphibole, clinozoisite and quartz. Characteristic of the thermal metamorphism under study are a) the absence of a typical contact aureole due to the large depth of the plutonic intrusion and b) the presence of metamorphic assemblages parallel to the schistosity of the surrounding rocks which points to their formation from hydrothermal fluids originated possibly from the magmatic body. These fluids were able to transfer the magma heat through the surrounding rocks’ schistosity and contacts to the upper levels of the crust. During their ascent, they dissolved preexisting minerals, especially calcite, and formed the calc-silicate minerals observed in the “boudinage” structures. The metamorphic assemblages are considered to have formed at temperatures of 500-600oC and at pressures about 2±0.5 kbars, and definitely not above 4.5 kbars, in the presence of H2O-rich and CO2-poor fluids (XH2O>0.8 and 0.15<XCO2<0.20).
