Eclogites are metamorphic rocks that derive from mafic igneous rocks. They are very dense and so they are related to very high-P conditions of formation. Based on temperature of formation eclogites can be distinguished into three types: a) low temperature, b) middle temperature and c) high temperature. Eclogites in Greece occur in the island of Syros, in the Rhodope massif and in the area of mount Dysoro.
Keywords: basic rock, high-pressure conditions, types of eclogites, Anorthite replacement , basic dehydration reactions, MORB eclogites, Allalin gabbro, Ermoupolis unit, ophiolitic mélange, older metamorphic phase, mount Dysoro.
