Περίληψη


Σκοπός της συγκεκριμένης εργασίας είναι η μελέτη πανίδας των σαρκοφάγων της θέσης Λίβακος. Το υλικό ανήκει στη συλλογή Eltgen του Μουσείου Γεωλογίας - Παλαιοντολογίας -Παλαιοανθρωπολογίας του ΑΠΘ. Στην εργασία αναγνωρίζονται τέσσερις διαφορετικές μορφές σαρκοφάγων, Pachycrocuta brevirostris, Homotherium latidens, Ursus deningeri, και Canis arnensis, ενώ παρατηρείται και ένα ακόμα είδος Canis, το οποίο δεν μπορεί να ταυτοποιηθεί σε επίπεδο είδους. Το περιβάλλον διαβίωσης αναγνωρίζεται ως ένα ανοικτό περιβάλλον, συγκεκριμένα μία κοιλάδα με ψηλή βλάστηση η οποία διαρρέεται από κάποιον ποταμό, ενώ η ύπαρξη της U. deningeri δηλώνει την ύπαρξη δάσους και κάποιου ορεινού όγκου περιμετρικά της κοιλάδας. Τέλος η ταυτόχρονη απουσία της Pliohyenna perrieri και παρουσία της Pachycrocuta brevirostris, δήλωνουν μία μεταβατική πανίδα για τον Λίβακο, με την χρονολόγηση της να τοποθετείται μεταξύ 2.0 και 1,5 Μα.

The main purpose of this paper is the study of the carnivore fauna found in the fossil site of Libakos. The studied samples belong to the Eltgen Collection, of the Museum of Geology - Palaentology – Palaeoanthropology AUTH. In this paper four different taxa of carnivores are identified: Pachycrocuta brevirostris, Homotherium latidens, Ursus deningeri and Canis arnensis while there is one more Canis species observed, which can not be identified at species level. The habitat of this fauna is characterized as open, crossed by a river. However, the presence of U. deningeri states the existence of a forest / mountain range in the peripherals of this valley. Lastly, the simultaneous absence of Pliohyenna perrieri and the presence of Pachycrocuta brevirostris indicate a transitional fauna for Libakos, dated between 2.0 and 1,5 Ma.
