Unconventional hydrocarbon systems – Exploration and exploitation = Μη συμβατικά κοιτάσματα υδρογονανθράκων – Έρευνα και εκμετάλλευση

The aim of this thesis was to study the unconventional oil systems and the ways of exploration and exploitation took place. We first examined the conditions that should apply to the creation of conventional hydrocarbon deposits. We then analyzed the differences of a conventional hydrocarbon deposit relative to an unconventional hydrocarbon deposit. We referred analytically to the types of unconventional deposits and increased gradient was given to the shale gas. It analyzed how this was created, how it was stored in the reservoir and that the world reserves were presented and the possibility of existence in Greece was analyzed. We then explored ways of exploring shale gas by drilling and exploiting it by developing advanced technologies such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Finally, the effects of the shale gas production by hydraulic fracturing on both the environment and humans were presented.
